Signal corps theodolite of the U.S. Army, with azimuth scale, crosshair and elevation illumination. Packed in wooden case.
This is a Balloon Theodolite. Used to track weather balloons day or night. The eye piece comes out the side to allow the telescope to point straight up to view an overhead balloon. The battery compartment lights up the cross hairs at night for night time tracking.
